George Northup, D.O.
Educator of the Year Award

The George W. Northup Educator of the Year Award was established in honor of George Northup, D.O., a dedicated mentor who profoundly impacted the lives of many osteopathic medical students. Dr. Northup was known for going above and beyond to enhance students' educational experiences.

Each year, local SOMA chapters nominate a professor, dean, or faculty member from their osteopathic medical school who embodies Dr. Northup's exceptional qualities. Previous nominees have generously dedicated extra hours to help students prepare for exams, welcomed students into their homes, volunteered in the community, and provided support as both mentors and friends.

Congratulations George Northup, D.O.
Educator of the Year 2024 Award Winner

Fall 2024 Recipient

Kyle K. Henderson, Ph.D.

Associate Professor - Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine

Dr. Henderson's passion for student mental health and well-being goes far beyond his role as an Associate Professor in the Physiology Department at CCOM. His students see him as more than a professor, he is a confidant, mentor, and friend. Whether attending student-run events or advising clubs like the Wilderness Medicine Club and the SGA Wellness Committee, Dr. Henderson is always present, supporting and guiding students.

From attending the M1/M2 Pool Party mixer to Epinephrine training events, Dr. Henderson never hesitates to step up. He serves as a volunteer faculty judge for the Mini Medical School’s poster presentation competition, demonstrating his dedication to fostering learning opportunities beyond the classroom. His commitment to students is unwavering, exemplified by his efforts to secure funding for QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention training, ensuring access to critical mental health resources.

As a physiology professor, Dr. Henderson's lessons are both informative and engaging bringing creativity to the classroom in one of the most challenging courses. Though not an Osteopathic physician, he passionately integrates OMT philosophy into his teaching, connecting with the heart of CCOM’s mission.

Dr. Henderson’s extraordinary commitment to student success and well-being makes him the perfect nominee for this prestigious award. His vision, compassion, and innovation inspire students every day, and we are honored to share his incredible journey.
